On October 19, 2026, Games Workshop revealed its Christmas Battleforce line-up for Warhammer 40,000, and the Necrons get one of the most striking boxes of the wave: Disciples of the Nekrosor. It pairs two huge centrepieces, the C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer and Nekrosor Ammentar, with Destroyers, a Doomstalker and a core of Necron Warriors. Pre-orders are coming “soon”, according to Warhammer Community.
What’s in the Disciples of the Nekrosor box?
Disciples of the Nekrosor builds 19 Necron miniatures across six units. According to Warhammer Community, the box contains:
- 1x C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer
- 1x Nekrosor Ammentar
- 3x Ophydian Destroyers
- 1x Canoptek Doomstalker
- 10x Necron Warriors
- 3x Canoptek Scarab Swarms
GW describes it as two powerful centrepiece miniatures surrounded by Necron mainstays. Both the Nightbringer and Ammentar were released in January 2026, so this is the cheapest way to get them together.
Units, options and playstyles
The box splits into three blocks: two monsters that win fights on their own, a fast strike team, and a resilient core that holds objectives.
Centrepieces: C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer + Nekrosor Ammentar. Together they are worth 555 points, more than half the box. The Nightbringer is a melee monster that deletes whatever it reaches, while Ammentar, the father of the Destroyer Cult, gives the army a second big threat your opponent can’t ignore. Point both at the centre of the table and make the enemy choose which one to stop.
Strike team: Ophydian Destroyers. These burrowing Destroyers arrive where the enemy is weakest and tear into backline units or objective holders. They fit the Destroyer Cult theme of the box.
Fire support: Canoptek Doomstalker. A long-range anti-tank walker that sits back and punishes vehicles and monsters while your heavy hitters advance.
Core: 10 Necron Warriors + 3 Canoptek Scarab Swarms. The Warriors are your battleline: tough, self-repairing and ideal for sitting on your home objective. The Scarabs are cheap screens and action-doers that free up your bigger units.
Which detachments fit this Battleforce?
Disciples of the Nekrosor splits into two Epic Heroes (the Nightbringer, a MONSTER, and Nekrosor Ammentar, an INFANTRY character), a DESTROYER CULT core (Ammentar and the Ophydian Destroyers), two CANOPTEK units (Doomstalker and Scarab Swarms) and a battleline of Necron Warriors. At 1,000 points you have 2 Detachment Points, so these four 2DP detachments get the most out of the box. If you plan to grow the box into a 2,000-point army, Starshatter Arsenal (3DP) is worth a look too.
Cursed Legion (2DP)
The natural home for this box, built around the Destroyer Cult that Ammentar founded. Its rule gives DESTROYER CULT weapons +2 Strength, and the first time each turn a DESTROYER CULT unit destroys a unit or reduces it to Below Half-strength, your other Necrons (except Monsters and Titanic models) also get +2 Strength until the end of the turn.
- Destroyer Ankh (20 pts): Overlord or Catacomb Command Barge only. The bearer gains DESTROYER CULT, its unit gets +2″ Move and its melee weapons +2 Attacks. Turns an Overlord leading the Warriors into part of the Destroyer engine.
- Murdermind (15 pts): Cryptek only. The bearer gains DESTROYER CULT and +3″ Move, and can join Ophydian, Skorpekh or Lokhust Destroyers as a Support unit. A cheap way to put a Plasmancer inside the Ophydian Destroyers with the detachment’s +2 Strength.
- Mark of the Nekrosor (20 pts): DESTROYER CULT model only. +1 to Hit for every attack from the bearer’s unit. Ammentar can’t take it (Epic Hero), so it needs a Destroyer Cult character such as a Hexmark Destroyer, Skorpekh Lord or Lokhust Lord.
- Cursed Circlet (25 pts): DESTROYER CULT model only. When an enemy unit shoots and destroys a model in the bearer’s unit, the bearer’s unit can surge up to D6″.
Stratagems: Methodical Murder (1CP) gives [SUSTAINED HITS 1] to any non-Monster, non-Vehicle unit, so Ammentar, the Ophydians and the Warriors all hit harder. Driven to Butchery (1CP) lets a Destroyer Cult unit Advance and still shoot or charge, perfect for getting the Ophydians into combat early. Mortis Protocols (1CP) reanimates the Warriors or Scarabs when a Destroyer Cult unit destroys an enemy within 9″, and Image of Death (1CP) gives -1 to Hit against Ammentar or the Ophydians.
Pantheon of Woe (2DP)
The C’tan detachment, built to unleash the Nightbringer. Its rule, Cosmic Distortion, gives every NECRONS MONSTER a 6″ Distortion Fields aura: enemy units inside it are unravelling, and all your attacks against them get +1 AP. At the start of each phase, a Monster can take 3 mortal wounds to stretch that aura to 9″. The Stratagems reward attacking unravelling units, for example by re-rolling Hit and Wound rolls of 1 or reanimating nearby Warriors when the C’tan destroys a unit.
This detachment has no Enhancement. Instead it has Necrodermal Bindings: each C’tan in your army must take its binding and pay its points.
- Quantum Goad (45 pts): C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer only, and mandatory if you take him in this detachment. He can declare a charge in a turn he Advanced, so he reaches the enemy much sooner.
The Nightbringer costs 405 points (360 + 45) with this mandatory enhancement, so mind it when you craft your list.
Stratagems: most of them reward fighting next to the Nightbringer. Entrophasic Aura Targeting (1CP) lets Ammentar, the Ophydians or the Warriors re-roll Hit and Wound rolls of 1 against unravelling units, and Mass Transmogrification (1CP) reanimates a nearby unit when the Nightbringer destroys an unravelling enemy. Molecular Erosion (1CP) forces a Battle-shock test that can inflict D3+1 mortal wounds, Chronodistortion (1CP) lets your models fight back as they die, and Disharmonisation Cascade (1CP) makes the Nightbringer explode on a 3+ when he falls.
Annihilation Legion (2DP)
The aggressive Destroyer Cult option. DESTROYER CULT and Flayed Ones units can re-roll charge rolls (+1 against units Below Half-strength), and DESTROYER CULT ranged attacks get +1 AP against the closest target. The Ophydian Destroyers love it.
- Eternal Madness (20 pts): any Necrons model. Models in the bearer’s unit destroyed in the Fight phase fight back on a 4+ before being removed. Great on a character leading the Warriors.
- Ingrained Superiority (5 pts): any Necrons model. Critical wounds from the bearer’s unit get +1 AP. A cheap filler for spare points.
- Soulless Reaper (15 pts): DESTROYER CULT model only. Enemy units trying to Fall Back from the bearer’s unit must stay put on a 3+.
- Eldritch Nightmare (10 pts): DESTROYER CULT model only. Enemy units in Engagement Range take a Battle-shock test at the start of the Fight phase.
Stratagems: all of them work on Ammentar and the Ophydian Destroyers. The Spoor of Frailty (1CP) gives +1 to Hit against damaged units (and +1 to Wound if they’re Below Half-strength), Murderous Reanimation (1CP) reanimates the unit after it destroys or cripples an enemy, and Pitiless Hunters (1CP) extends pile-in and consolidation moves to 6″. On defence, Masks of Death (1CP) gives -1 to Hit against them.
Canoptek Court (2DP)
The pick if you want to lean on the Canoptek half of the box. Your deployment zone is always part of your Power Matrix, which grows as you control more objectives. CRYPTEK and CANOPTEK units re-roll Hit rolls of 1, or all Hit rolls while wholly within the Power Matrix, so the Doomstalker shooting from home becomes very reliable. All its Enhancements need a Cryptek.
- Dimensional Sanctum (20 pts): Cryptek only. The bearer’s unit has Infiltrators. Lets the Warriors deploy forward and expand the Power Matrix early.
- Hyperphasic Fulcrum (15 pts): Cryptek only. While leading a unit wholly within the Power Matrix, it re-rolls Wound rolls of 1.
- Autodivinator (15 pts): Cryptek only. Each time your opponent gains CP from an ability, you gain 1CP on a 2+.
- Metalodermal Tesla Weave (10 pts): Cryptek only. Enemy units that charge the bearer’s unit can take D3 or 3 mortal wounds.
Stratagems: Cynosure of Eradication (2CP) gives [DEVASTATING WOUNDS] to the Doomstalker while it’s wholly within the Power Matrix, its best anti-tank trick. Countertemporal Shift (1CP) means the Doomstalker or the Scarabs can only be shot from within 18″, Reactive Subroutines (1CP) lets them move 6″ after an enemy moves nearby, and Suboptimal Facade (1CP) reanimates a Canoptek unit when it’s charged inside the Power Matrix. Solar Pulse and Curse of the Cryptek need a Cryptek.
Epic Heroes can’t take Enhancements, so neither the Nightbringer nor Ammentar can carry these. You’ll need to add a character to use them.
Starshatter Arsenal (3DP, 2,000 points)
A 3DP detachment, so it isn’t legal at 1,000 points, but it’s a strong home for this box once you grow it to 2,000. Its rule, Relentless Onslaught, gives +1 to Hit to every Necrons attack (except from Monsters) against units within range of an objective, so Ammentar, the Ophydian Destroyers, the Warriors and the Scarabs all hit more often where it matters. It also gives [ASSAULT] to the ranged weapons of Necrons Vehicles and Mounted units, so the Doomstalker can Advance and still shoot. The Nightbringer is a Monster and gets no bonus here.
- Dread Majesty (30 pts, Aura): Overlord or Catacomb Command Barge only. Friendly Necrons units within 6″ (except Monsters and Titanic) re-roll Hit and Wound rolls of 1. Put it on an Overlord leading the Warriors, next to the Ophydians and the Doomstalker.
- Miniaturised Nebuloscope (15 pts): any Necrons model. The ranged weapons of the bearer’s unit have [IGNORES COVER]. Good on a character attached to the Warriors.
- Demanding Leader (10 pts): any Necrons model. Each Command phase, pick a Vehicle or Mounted unit within 6″: it can shoot in a turn it Fell Back. Keeps the Doomstalker shooting when it gets charged.
- Chrono-impedance Fields (25 pts): any Necrons model. Each Command phase, pick a Vehicle or Mounted unit within 6″: attacks against it get -1 Damage. Makes the Doomstalker much harder to kill.
Stratagems: Merciless Reclamation (2CP) adds +1 to Wound against units on objectives for any non-Monster unit, and Endless Servitude (1CP) reanimates a unit holding an objective at the end of your Fight phase, ideal for the Warriors. Unyielding Forms (2CP) protects the Doomstalker from high-Strength attacks, Chronoshift (1CP) adds 6″ to its Advance, and Reactive Reposition (1CP) lets a unit move D6″ after being shot. None of them affect the Nightbringer.
To reach 2,000 points, add more Vehicles and Mounted units that use the rule, such as a Catacomb Command Barge, Lokhust Destroyers (which also fit the Destroyer Cult theme), Tomb Blades or a Ghost Ark for the Warriors. At 2,000 points you can take up to four Enhancements.
Disciples of the Nekrosor points value
Disciples of the Nekrosor is worth 890 points in Warhammer 40,000 matched play, based on current points values. That’s over 100 points more than most Battleforces, thanks to the two Epic Heroes.
| Unit | Models | Points |
|---|---|---|
| C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer | 1 | 360 |
| Nekrosor Ammentar | 1 | 195 |
| Ophydian Destroyers | 3 | 80 |
| Canoptek Doomstalker | 1 | 130 |
| Necron Warriors | 10 | 85 |
| Canoptek Scarab Swarms | 3 | 40 |
| Total | 19 | 890 |
How to reach 1,000 points
You only need 110 more points for a 1,000-point game. In 11th edition you can take up to two Enhancements, each unit can carry only one, and Epic Heroes can’t take them. With 110 points to spend you can only add one character, so the builds below use one Enhancement at most and leave 30–60 points for it. Pantheon of Woe works differently: it has no Enhancements, but the Nightbringer must pay for his binding.
- Cursed Legion: Plasmancer (60) = 950 pts. Give him Murdermind and he joins the Ophydian Destroyers as a Support unit, adding ranged firepower with the detachment’s +2 Strength, for 965 pts.
- Pantheon of Woe: Quantum Goad (45) + Canoptek Spyders (65) = 1,000 pts. The Nightbringer charges after Advancing, and the Spyders back up the Doomstalker and Scarabs. No Enhancements in this detachment.
- Annihilation Legion: Royal Warden (50) = 940 pts. The Royal Warden leads the Warriors and makes them harder to shift from objectives. Add Eternal Madness so they fight back when they die, for 960 pts.
- Canoptek Court: Technomancer (80) = 970 pts. The Technomancer joins the Warriors as a Support unit and keeps them alive, and as a Cryptek he unlocks the detachment’s Enhancements. Add Dimensional Sanctum to infiltrate the Warriors and grow the Power Matrix early, for 990 pts.

Disciples of the Nekrosor release date and pre-orders
We expect Disciples of the Nekrosor pre-orders to open on a Saturday between November 14 and 28, 2026, with release about two weeks later (late November to mid-December). GW has only said pre-orders are coming soon.
| Year | Battleforce reveal | Pre-orders | Release |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | October 19 | Nov 14–28 (est.) | Nov 28–Dec 12 (est.) |
| 2025 | Early October | November 15 | November 29 |
This year’s reveal came about two weeks later than in 2025, so pre-orders could slip toward the end of that window.
Who is Nekrosor Ammentar?
Nekrosor Ammentar is a Necron character introduced in the 500 Worlds campaign. According to Necron myth, he was the first to be afflicted by the Destroyer curse, which makes him the source of the Destroyer Cult. Even the Silent King doesn’t know his exact origins.
In the campaign, Ammentar and his Nightbringer C’tan Shards cut a path of destruction through Ultramar, and Warhammer Community says they now have their sights set on the rest of the galaxy. That’s why the box pairs him with the Nightbringer and a pack of Ophydian Destroyers.
Is Disciples of the Nekrosor worth it?
Yes, especially if you want the Nightbringer and Ammentar. For an expected £155 / $250 / €212 (or around £132 / $213 / €180 at a discount retailer) you get 890 points, the two newest Necron centrepieces and a saving of around 30% over separate kits.
The catch is that over 60% of the points sit in two Epic Heroes. That makes the box great for collectors and for anyone building a C’tan or Destroyer Cult army, but less flexible as a first Necron purchase: you only get one battleline unit, and neither character can take an Enhancement. If you’re starting Necrons from scratch, pair it with a second unit of Warriors or Immortals.
